A football team that was indeed crowned the second best team in the whole FA Cup in May 2006, allowing Liverpool to score another utterly flukey cup triumph.
The 2006/07 Season
West Ham spent 2006/07 battling against relegation. Their hopes were raised at the start of the season, when they signed Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano, two highly rated Argentine superstars. The whole transfer was dodgier than a job-lot of Rolex watches from down Peckham market, however, and it was soon discovered that the whole thing was illegal.
By this time, Mascherano had already moved (almost totally legally this time) to Liverpool, while Tevez had recovered from being really crap for ages to score a series of goals in the last few games for West Ham and save them from relegation, and allow them another season in the Premiership.
This precipitated legal action from a number of clubs that had either been relegated instead of West Ham, or been beaten by them recently, who claimed that they should be docked points for the whole Tevez/Mascherano saga. The FA said no, and the whole situation will now be reduced to a load of legal statememnts read out throughout the summer, before everyone gives up with trying to get anything changed.
