Staple pub fare. Wetherspoons pubs pride themselves on cheap prices, sticky tables and obviously microwaved gourmet food.

Most Wetherspoons contain at least one quizzie, and good Wetherspoons used to stock Früli, however this was removed from beverage menus in February 2006. A suitable alternative is yet to be found.

Wetherspoons recently banned smoking from their pubs. Thereby alienating approximately 70% of their customers.

It is traditional for Wetherspoons to include the word "moon" in their title. Nobody knows why.

Friki Addendum

Despite the loss of Früli from all Wetherspoons in bottled form, the Baker Street branch has taken the laudable stand of offering pints of the pinky nectar on tap. If going for a night out in London, Friki advocates ending the night here and using all your coinage to buy a pint. So long as you have more than a tenners worth of coinage, that is.

Also, the Tooting Wetherspoons was recently found to still have possession of the last 12 bottles of Früli, possibly in the world.

The Misty Moon Phenomenon

Something wicked this way comes. During a recent Friki excursion to the arse end of the Metropolitan Line, Friki visited several pubs named "The Misty Moon" (Chesham, Northwood, etc.). These are identical to Wetherspoons in every way. The decor, drinks selection, etc. However, there is no reference anywhere on the building, or any of its menus, to actually being one. Friki suspects this is either:

  • A rival copycat chain, trying to fool people into coming in, only to disappoint them with poor food, or;
  • Pubs disowned by the Wetherspoon Corporation (TM) for ruining the brand with their poor food.

Either way, a poor man's version of a poor man's pub.
