Canadian Two Dollar Coinage.

Worth about a quid

Origins

In 1987, Canada caught up with rampant inflation, and replaced the $1 note with a new coin displaying a picture of a loon. In original and Canadian thoughtful logic, the coin was nicknamed "the loonie".

By the time 1996 rolled around, a loonie was now worth half as much, prompting them once again to replace the $2 note with a new coin, featuring a Polar Bear. Sticking with originality and hoser logic, the Canadian public thus dubbed it the "toonie", despite it featuring a completely different animal.

This made perfect sense to them.
