Sam Adams
From Frikipedia
Samuel Adams is a major beer brand in the United States. In 2005, it sold over 1.3 million barrells of beer, and had $359 million in sales.
Marketing Strategy
It has become a major beer brand by marketing itself as a micro-brew, something it most certainly is not (see above). Unfortunately, most Americans are susceptible to a well-produced marketing campaign, and thus know that Sam Adams is produced solely by a crafty gent with a big nose, and a small crew of burly and bearded brewmasters.
Taste
The effect of drinking any of the 18 Sam Adams varieties can be described thus. First, the drinker is happy with the first sip, because, well, they like alcohol. A few sips later, the consumer suddenly realizes that the sop they are drinking is not any better than a Budweiser that costs half as much. Too patriotic to admit that they were duped into buying something by seeing it on the TV, they casually try to finish the beverage and try to look like they're enjoying it. The brown, opaque bottles that Sam is served in make it convenient for hiding the half-beer that most people leave behind.
