Prospect of Whitby

Bizarrely named pub in the Ken Livingstone-inspired area of Wapping.

The Prospect of Whitby is not the oldest pub in the world, losing out to Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, a pub in Nottingham where some of the regulars have been carbon-dated to be 143 million years old.

It is very much a gastropub, and a round of drinks will swallow up a tenner in its entirety. It also has no quizzie, no pool table, no dartboard and very little in the way of internal lighting.

It is rescued, however, by offering seating on "The Deck". This being a riverside rooftop beer garden affording spectacular views of the Docklands area of London and allowing everyone to take in the indulgent extent of London's pimping of itself to large multi-national corporations.

The pub also contains a rope and noose display, in case the awful truth of the scenery is too much for you, and allows you to pose for a never-ending sea of tourist pictures from the passing river cruises.
