Popular board game. The winner is the first to get to Mornington Crescent station.

The Rules

The rules of Mornington Crescent are too long and complex to be fully discussed by Frikipedia here.

However there are a few key pointers:

  • Holborn to West Ruislip is only permissible if the game is being played to the pre-1972 rules.
  • An anti-clockwise Goodge Street gambit can only be employed on the Circle Line.
  • Dabbling with the eastern terminus of the Central Line can result in a lengthy passage of play around the Hainault loop, a situation that can only be remedied between 7am and 7pm, Monday to Friday.
  • Never suspend your Northbound front when the District Line is still unguarded.
  • The Stockwell Shuffle was outlawed during the 2005 World Championships, when one of the title contenders used it to block off the Finsbury Park triangle, resulting in a drawn game.
  • Only King your pieces on the Piccadilly Line when certain you can safely interchange with the Uxbridge branch before an opponent plays the Old Street interception.
  • Any move to Willesden Junction can easily be countered by blockading your pieces in near Morden.
  • Predicting an inverse move via Maida Vale is virtually impossible until the Victoria Line has been secured.

Friki Fact

Friki once played a game of Mornington Crescent outside a pub in Kilburn. It lasted for three hours and Friki still lost after it threw the game when time constraints forced the closure of Queensway
