F1 track designer extraordinare. Any new F1 track introduced since 1998 was designed by him. Apart from the infield at Indianapolis, which is an abomination and therefore may as well have been.

Controversy

Controversy tends to reign whenever a new track is built. Usually because of the use of Rose tinted spectacles. People dislike Tilke's designs because they all look similar, all designs tend to involve "corners", which turn "left" or "right", and most have a pit lane.

Tilke's detractors point out that older tracks looked prettier, with trees, gravel traps and go-go girls. This used to give the fans something to look at rather than become distracted by the cars on track, which rarely did much of note.

Tilke's controversial attempt to re-introduce the possibility of overtaking has divided the fans.

Occasionally, Tilke also attracts controversy by redesigning an old track. This tends to bring out a new form of grouch who were happy with the way things were, and were baffled why nobody wanted to race around their run down grebby racetrack anymore.

Tilke was the founder of 'Tilke's Incredible Track Society'. There are many fans of TITS, across all reaches of the globe. It was established to promote the design and re-design of racing circuits to future generations.

Future

Every track on the F1 calendar is expected to conform to the Tilke design by 2020.
