The first in the series of dirty sounding hockey talk and double entendres.

In hockey, the five hole refers to the area between the goalies pads, above his goal stick. To "go five-hole" has become about as ubiquitous in Canada as the word beer.

The five hole is one of the most effective ways of scoring on Andrew Raycroft.

Typical Usage

In television broadcasts, it would be common to hear a play described as follows:

Bob Cole: "And the Leafs are digging for the puck in the corner, and it comes out, right into the slot, shoots...SCORES! Mats Sundin goes five-hole on Patrick Lalime and the Leafs take a 1-0 lead!"

Harry Neale: "This goal is all about slot area pressure. Sundin backs up the defenseman, takes a cross-check, maintains position right between the hash marks and rifles a shot through the wickets of Lalime."
