Docklands

Pre-1980(ish), the Docklands was a dirty, run-down area of east London where buildings and infrastructure crumbled because it wasn't the Industrial Revolution any more.

Post-1980(ish), the Docklands has been sold off in large chunks for "regeneration". So now you have the Quarf, the empty Millennium Dome, the monorail and wave after wave of expensive pre-fab flats for the Quarf's overpaid staff.

All of the Docklands was made possible by Mrs Thatcher, whose briliant strategy of taking England to the brink of financial ruin meant the government had little choice but to sell off large areas of real estate to multinationals, whatever the price.
