Buffet

Buffets were cool things to do at dinner parties in the 80's, when the world was all vol au vents and sparkling wine. Now really only the mainstay of naff pub chains that can't afford microwaves and for use at family get togethers when you can't be arsed to make an effort.

Student parties tend to claim to lay on a buffet, though this usually just consists of a pack of Somerfield scotch eggs and some Wotsits.
