Peverse hidden camera based TV show presented by Jeremy Beadle.

Revolved around setting up a member of the public to believe something horrible had happened, like their car had been pushed in a canal, or their whole family had been killed, or something. They would then be led a merry dance involving shattering all their hopes and dreams and taking them deeper and deeper into a pit of despair, before Beadle jumped out of a bush and laughed at them.

Weird.
